High Risk Vulnerabilities in the StarOffice Suite

January 4th, 2007

John Heasman of NGSSoftware has discovered several high risk vulnerabilities
in the handling of WMF and EMF graphics formats within the StarOffice suite.

The vulnerabilities, affecting StarOffice 6, 7 and 8 could lead to execution
of arbitrary code if the user opens a specially crafted document.

These issues have now been resolved; StarOffice users are strongly recommended
to install the relevant patch, available from SunSolve website:

NGSSoftware are going to withhold details of this flaw for three months.
Full details will be published in April 2007. This three month
window will allow users of StarOffice the time needed to apply the
patch before the details are released to the general public. This reflects
NGSSoftware’s approach to responsible disclosure.
