High Risk Vulnerabilities in the OpenOffice Suite

January 4th, 2007

John Heasman of NGSSoftware has discovered several high risk vulnerabilities
in the handling of WMF and EMF graphics formats within the OpenOffice suite.

The vulnerabilities, affecting versions of OpenOffice prior to 2.1.0 could lead
to execution of arbitrary code if the user opens a specially crafted document.

These issues have been resolved in version 2.1.0 of OpenOffice; users are
strongly recommended to upgrade:

NGSSoftware are going to withhold details of this flaw for three months.
Full details will be published in April 2007. This three month
window will allow users of OpenOffice the time needed to apply the
patch before the details are released to the general public. This reflects
NGSSoftware’s approach to responsible disclosure.
